Southwater FC came to Dragons Green on a beautiful sunny afternoon to play their last league match this season in the SCFL Division Two. TD Shipley were up for the fight in a local derby which didn’t fail to impress. The away team have had a great season, they have a cup final to look forward to on Tuesday against Jarvis Brook and they are hoping to finish third in the final standings.
The first half was a typical derby match with tough tackles and the usual handbags. Both teams gave it everything in a very even half. The strike force of TD had the better opportunities and Adam Campbell-Stone came close with a free kick. The crowd of over 100 enjoyed the passion on show.
The second half kicked off with Southwater pushing forward, however a long pass found the battling Adam Campbell-Stone. He controlled it with his chest, and smashed the ball past the stricken goalkeeper to score his 30th goal of an extraordinary season. No wonder teams in the Isthmian League are taking a look at the 27 year old.
Southwater’s Sam Berry was working hard down the left wing. His crossing led to some decent chances for an equaliser but Woodward couldn’t be beaten in the Dragons goal.
Adam Campbell-Stone doubled the lead deep into injury time. To make it 2-0 and 31 goals. Unfortunately, just a minute later Kane Watt received a red card and got his matching orders.
Man of the Match went to Dan Evo Evans for his fantastic performance.
Next up for the Dragons and their last game of the season is against Capel FC on the 19th April at home.
Good luck to Southwater in the cup final!
