Toby Top Notch at The Back Today

After a difficult run of results for the boys, Unusual for our lads so today's game was a chance to right some wrongs and get a result against a team that we were unlucky not to beat when we played them a few weeks back.

Starting with a strong 11, Oliver came back into goal, Lewis B, Toby, Ryan and Dean at the back, Lewis and Jack in the middle with Dorian and Stephen on the wings.Sam and Kieron back up top together to get us set up ready to take the game to Hangleton.

The boys did really well keeping the ball from the start today, getting it down and playing short simple passes, drawing in the pressure and hitting Hangleton down the wings causing danger from both sides.

It did take a little while for our attack to get going shot wise with our first shot not coming off until 10 mins in from Sam. After some brilliant work down the right hand side, Stephen cut inside and laid the ball into the path of Kieron before Kier took the defender on and setting the ball into the path of Sam to hit left footed into the hands of the keeper. Unlucky but great build up play.

Sam was getting joy against the Hangleton back line and almost opened the scoring after Dorian chipped a long pass into the run of Stephen who cut inside and set up Sam to take a shot from just inside the area with the ball just going wide past the post.

Our first goal came with 5 minutes left of the half and it was a brilliant footballing goal. The ball started on the left side of the defence with Dean tackling and winning the ball off the winger. Dean laid it into Ryan before Ryan played a quick 1-2 with Tobes. Ryan then played it into Oliver who took a touch before pinging it out to Lewis B in the Rb position. Lewis B drove forward with the ball into space before knocking it over into the run of Sam on the right wing. Sam took it upon himself to dance through several defenders before a beaut of a through ball into Kieron who finished brilliantly over the keeper into the far side netting. 0-1 and deserved.

HT - HANGLETON - 0 - TD - 1

At the half we had to make a change after Stephen had been clattered so Mase came in and slotted in on the left side of Midfield. The rest of the team stayed the same and the boys were confident they could go out and get the result.

Hangleton started the second half strong and were pushing to get the equaliser but Toby and Ryan were playing lights out football at the back, not giving the attackers an opportunity to get past them or win a ball in the air.

Within the first 5 minutes of the half, we lost Kieron and Lewis B through Injury so Cam & Ethan came into the game, Cam slotting in up top next to Sam and Ethan in his usual RB spot and both were fantastic right from the off. Ethan saw the tricky winger and stepped up to the challenge, winning 95% of his tackles and duels against the fella and Cam looked natural up top scaring the defenders into several mistakes.

It was actually from Cam's pressure the second goal came from with Cam charging down a clearance and causing the defender to knock it out for a throw. Dean with some quick thinking, took the throw and sent it over the top for Sam and Cam to chase. With Cam charging down the defender again, Sam received the pass before driving towards the goal, holding off 2 players before sitting the keeper down and finishing beautifully into the near post. 0 - 2

Shortly after the goal, we lost Dean to an Injury and had to bring Stephen in at Left back. Stan had come on for Lewis W in the midfield & Freddie came in for Sam and this was how we finished the game player wise.

Stan and Jack were brilliant together in th middle, battling for every ball, looking to get the ball out as best as possible.
Hangleton started to step it up to get back in the game but the defence were unbeatable and even when the ball went over the top, Oliver was confident and quickly out t claim the ball.

Our 3rd goal came from some great defending on the right side with Ethan and Toby shutting the attack down before playing it out to Stan. Stan turned and knocked it into the path of Mase who on the right of the field, cut inside and hit a fantastic curling through ball into the run of Dorian. Big D almost got cut off by the defender but knicked the ball back off of him before baring down on goal and finishing smartly through the legs of the onrushing keeper to finish the game. 0-3

There was just over 10 minutes of the game left at this point and the boys were just non stop! They defended every pass, every cross and every shot like they were 1-0 up and wanted the clean sheet. Every lad put in a shift and didn't let the clean sheet go, although Oliver decided to give myself, Nigel and Darren a few more grey hairs letting the ball go under him and then chasing it down. He assured us at the end he knew what he was doing (phew!).

FT - HANGLETON R - 0 - TD - 3

A Brilliant, determined performance from every single player today. Playing football the right way, they gave their all and came away with a much deserved win and progressing through to the next round of the league Cup.

MOTM- Toby Hunter - Terrific Toby today! After spending Thursday night in A&E due to a head knock, Toby came out today and cemented his partnership with Ryan at the back. Dominant in the air, Strong on the ground and driving out from the back. Brilliant!
